An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Oye Constituency II, Hon. Comrade Idowu Odebunmi, popularly known as I.D Aluta, has commended the Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, for her impactful pet project, Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH).
Hon. Odebunmi described the initiative as a compassionate and strategic intervention that is restoring hope to widows and orphans across Ekiti State.
According to him, the programme has not only provided relief and support to vulnerable families but has also strengthened the grassroots economy through empowerment schemes and welfare initiatives.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the lawmaker noted that WAOH demonstrates that governance extends beyond policies and infrastructure to deliberate actions aimed at uplifting the most vulnerable members of society.
“The Widows and Orphans Hope initiative of Her Excellency, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, is a shining example of purposeful leadership driven by empathy and service. The project is making a meaningful difference in the lives of widows and vulnerable children across our communities,” Odebunmi stated.
He further explained that the programme’s empowerment schemes, financial assistance, and moral support for widows are helping beneficiaries regain stability and dignity, while also stimulating small-scale economic activities at the grassroots level.
I.D Aluta emphasized that such social intervention programmes complement the development agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration, particularly in promoting inclusive growth and strengthening social protection across the state.
The Oye Constituency II representative also revealed that he shares a similar passion for supporting vulnerable groups. He disclosed that he runs a monthly support initiative targeted at assisting elderly citizens within his constituency, providing care and welfare packages to a significant number of aged individuals.
“As representatives of the people, it is our responsibility to care for the aged, widows, and other vulnerable members of society. My modest monthly intervention for the elderly is inspired by the same commitment to compassion and community development,” he added.
He also called on Ekiti indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora, to partner with the Office of the First Lady in strengthening the Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH) initiative. According to him, collective support from well-meaning Ekiti sons and daughters will further expand the reach of the programme and deepen its impact across communities.
Hon. Odebunmi (I.D Aluta) urged other political office holders, corporate organisations, and stakeholders to emulate the First Lady’s humanitarian efforts, stressing that collective action remains essential to reducing poverty and social hardship.
He reaffirmed his continued support for initiatives that promote social welfare and sustainable empowerment, noting that Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH) stands as a beacon of hope for many families in Ekiti State.
