An APC chieftain and Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters has said that the sweeping reforms and massive investments recorded in the education sector under the administration of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, have strengthened the call for his re-election for a second term.
The APC leader, Hon. Ibraheem Kunle Olarewaju, made this known in a statement issued to journalists, where he described education as one of the strongest pillars of Governor Oyebanji’s developmental agenda.
According to Olarewaju, the governor’s administration has deliberately positioned education as a tool for sustainable development, youth empowerment, and long-term economic growth in Ekiti State.
He disclosed that over ₦14 billion has been invested in education through the World Bank-supported Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, leading to the renovation of 1,415 classrooms, construction of 83 new classrooms, and the provision of modern laboratories and digital learning facilities in 203 public secondary schools across the state.
Olarewaju noted that the intervention has significantly improved learning conditions and expanded access to quality education, particularly in rural communities.
He added that the administration has equally prioritised digital literacy, with the installation of smart boards in public schools and the distribution of 2,716 laptops and 1,470 desktop computers to strengthen technology-driven learning.
On teacher welfare, the APC chieftain said Governor Oyebanji approved the recruitment of over 2,000 teachers, alongside regular training programmes aimed at improving teaching quality. He further revealed that ₦596.6 million was approved for car and housing loans for teaching and non-teaching staff, describing the move as a major boost to staff morale.
Olarewaju also noted that the administration undertook critical curriculum reforms to align learning outcomes with 21st-century skills, innovation, and global competitiveness.
He said the impact of the education reforms has already attracted national and international recognition, citing the 2025 Times Higher Education ranking, which placed Ekiti State University (EKSU) as the number one state university in Nigeria and 12th overall nationwide.
According to him, the achievement reflects the governor’s commitment to quality education, global standards, and academic excellence.
Olarewaju stressed that Governor Oyebanji’s performance in the education sector is a clear indication of purposeful leadership and effective governance, adding that continuity is essential to consolidate the gains already recorded.
He therefore urged the people of Ekiti State to rally behind Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and support his re-election for a second term in order to sustain the ongoing reforms and secure a transformative future for education and development in the state.
