The Lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt Honourable Busayo Oluwole Oke has commended the defection of four Peoples Democratic Party Lawmakers representing various constituencies in Osun State to the All Progressives Congress, describing it as “a bold and strategic move at the National Assembly”
As part of political realignment ahead of the 2026 general elections, four federal lawmakers from Osun State officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, July 23, 2025. The defection was formally announced on the floor of the House of Representatives in Abuja.
The ceremony was witnessed by Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, member representing Ijesa North Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He was joined by Osun APC Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal Sooko, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and several other party stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the development.
The lawmakers who joined the APC included Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), Hon. Bimbo Ajilesoro (Ife Federal Constituency), and Hon. Sanya Omirina (Ijesa South Federal Constituency). Their move is seen as a major boost to the APC’s strength in Osun State and at the national level.
The atmosphere on the floor of the House was jubilant, as APC lawmakers from across the country welcomed the defectors into the progressive fold. The defection comes at a time when political alignments and strategic movements are intensifying ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Oluwole Oke described the development as a “bold and timely decision” that reflects the confidence of Osun lawmakers in the leadership, structure, and ideology of the APC.
He reaffirmed the party’s readiness to continue leading with integrity, vision, and grassroots support.
The APC leadership has described the event as a significant milestone in its mission to reclaim political dominance in Osun State. Party officials maintain that the defections are a clear sign that the APC remains the preferred platform for progress, unity, and responsive governance in Nigeria.
With defection of the Lawmakers to the APC, Hon. Oluwole Oke maintained that victory was certain for the APC candidates in the subsequent elections.
