The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, was the stage for an intellectual milestone on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, as Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, formally launched the second edition of his book, Customs Administration in Nigeria.
According to a press release issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Isah Sulaiman, the event, which held at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post, drew senior officials from various security and regulatory agencies, who gathered to celebrate what many described as a “bold contribution to knowledge and professional development” within the Customs and border management community.
In his keynote address, Comptroller Oramalugo described the book as more than a publication, “it is a product of years of professional experience, academic research, and policy engagement.”
“The dynamism of global trade, the rise of digital customs, and the expanding role of Customs in national security all demand a scholarly response. This book aspires to offer a practical framework for understanding, navigating, and improving customs systems in Nigeria and similar jurisdictions”, he noted.
According to him, the second edition incorporates emerging challenges in Customs operations, reflects ongoing reforms under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and aligns with global standards in trade facilitation and border security.
He emphasised the need for Customs officers to embrace continuous intellectual development as a professional ethic. “A knowledgeable officer is a more effective officer. A disciplined mind is a catalyst for institutional excellence.”
Comptroller Oramalugo also used the opportunity to thank reviewers, editors, and everyone who contributed to the book’s production, while appreciating the support of the CGC and NCS’ leadership for promoting a culture of knowledge, discipline and reform.
Top officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and key border stakeholders commended Comptroller Oramalugo for elevating the intellectual dimension of Customs work and praised the transformation underway within the Service, particularly in areas of modernisation, transparency, and professionalism.
