The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port & Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Area Command, on Thursday, 3 July 2025, hosted the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for a sensitisation session on the self-service system for asset declaration.
The event aimed to deepen officers’ understanding of the importance of asset declaration and ethical conduct in public service.
Addressing officers during the session, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller, Tenny Daniyan, emphasised the importance of integrity as a personal and professional value.
His words, “Integrity is not only how you do your work, but how you live your life. The people who are supposed to monitor us and have a say in our lifestyle when we live above our means are here with us. The last time we brought in the ICPC, it was our way of educating ourselves and putting ourselves on our toes to continue doing the right thing.”
Comptroller Daniyan reiterated the service’s commitment to transparency and accountability, stating, “I have no doubt in my mind that as officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, we shall and will be able to maintain the kind of life the government expects of us.”
In her remarks, the Lagos State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Olufunke Popoola, said the Bureau’s presence at the command was part of its statutory mandate to ensure public officers comply with the law. “We are just here to carry out our official mandate and to ensure that public officers conform to the rule of law regarding the Code of Conduct”, she explained.
She highlighted the confidential nature of asset declarations, particularly for career public officers.
“We receive declarations from you every four years, at entry into service, during service, and at retirement. Whatever you declare to us is subject to secrecy between yourself and the Bureau. We do not release information on asset declarations to anyone, except to other anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC or ICPC during investigations”, she assured.
The session featured a question-and-answer segment, during which officers asked questions about asset declaration procedures, penalties for non-compliance, and how to navigate the new self-service platform.
