The Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated a 10-man taskforce on anti-theft and vandalization of power facilities across the state.
Inaugurating the task force headed by the Special Adviser on Security 3 and Retired Commissioner of Police, Mary George, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, charged members to go after suspects who destroyed and stole components of 253 transformers and other electrical installations across the state.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who also met with traditional rulers, CDC chairmen, women and youth leaders drawn from various communities, stated that government would no longer tolerate negligence over vandalisation and theft of power installation adding that leaders who fail to take necessary action to bring such suspects to book will hencefort be held aiding and abating.
The Deputy Governor said the state government would require about six hundred million Naira to fix the vandalised transformers and that electricity would be restored within this week where transformers and power feeders were in good conditions.
