Seniority is sacrosanct in Nigeria Political Arena. Coming to lawmaking business, ranking in the Federal House of Representatives is very valuable. It confers huge benefits including more powers within boarder caucuses, front row seats in the Green chamber and better office spaces.
But more importantly, ranking is used in the selection of candidates for leadership of the federal House of Representatives and appointments of committee chairmanship.
It is for this reason that constituents are often inclined to re-elect their representatives rather than sending “greenhorns” to represent them at the legislative arm of government. Despite these obvious benefits of seniority, Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1 has never returned a Rep Member.
Member of House of Representatives from the federal constituency who did one term each are: Hon. Femi Dada, Hon Adewale Aribisala, Congressman Bimbo Daramola, Pastor Kehinde Agboola and incumbent Hon. Peter Owolabi.
Though Congressman Bimbo Daramola increased the bench mark for representation for the people, his agenda and aspirations for the people were cut following his not return to the 8th Senate.
Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1 comprising of Oye and Ikole local government is blessed with like-minded people. Unfortunately, the people of the constituency have not been so lucky on their representation in the House of Representatives following the wanton changing of Lawmaker in every political dispensation.
The cost has been huge. No Man from the federal constituency has assumed a better leadership position in the House of Representatives. Only Congressman Bimbo Daramola who represented the Constituency in 2011 to 2015 later to Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives had gotten much better position in the Green Chamber.
However, Congressman Bimbo Daramola, flagbearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is on verge to represent his constituency again in the February 25 general election with viable intention for Commoners Development. He stands better chance to go back to the Green Chamber again as one of the prominent Politican, able to compete for a leadership position or secure the Chairmanship of a very powerful committee.
He would have a very good chance to get a juicy chairmanship position and a leadership position, which a new Rep Member won’t have. And he won’t be a backbencher. To crown it all, Congressman Bimbo Daramola is the best option available for Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1. He is Intelligent, Better by Far, Exposed and Credible Goal-getter.
