Gov. Oyebanji @55: Celebrating An Excellent Icon in Service

In the words of Brain Tracy, being a good leader is something you learn and perfect with diligence, compassion, persistence, and experience.

 

Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji is truly a Wonderful Gift to the people of Ekiti State. His 55 years sojourn on earth has been a life of services to God and humanity in accordance to the prayers and wishes of his beloved father whose still alive and his mother of blessed memory.

 

Suffice to say that the prayers and dreams of all responsible parents is to live a worthy and exemplary life and also gave birth to Godfearing. Children who will not only build upon their legacies but also keep the family’s name afloat and bring honour, dignity and pride to their people, society and humanity at large.

Some parents are lucky to have their prayers answered while others are not despite efforts to put their children on the path of decency and righteousness.

 

For the highly reputable and respected Oyebanji family in the ancient city of Ikogosi, Ekiti South West area of Ekiti State, it was a prayer answered as December 21, 1967, remains indelible in the history of the family.

On that day God in his infinite mercy blessed the family with an illustrious son called Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

 

Few years after his birth this God given child began to manifest the virtues of simplicity, humility, obedience, patience, perseverance, love for the common man, passion for humanity and determination to reach the apex of his dreams. This prompted men of wisdom and foresight to foretell that Biodun will bring honour and pride to his parents and become the emancipator of his people in the nearest future.

 

True to this prophesy, Abayomi grew up to become a vibrant, intelligent, hardworking, determined and focused young man full of zeal to reach the apex of his academic dreams.

 

Oyebanji attended Awo Community High School before transferring to C.A.C Grammar School in Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State, and then the Federal School of Art and Science in Ondo State and the District Commercial Secondary School in Aramoko, Ekiti State (1979 to 1983).

 

In 1989, Oyebanji obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Political Science from the Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti), and proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Oyo State in 1992 where he bagged his masters’ Degree (M.Sc) in Political Science.

 

He started his career in public service at age 27 in 1994 when he appointed the Secretary of the committee set up for the creation of Ekiti State, headed by Baba Deji Falegan whilst Secretary of the Ekiti State Development Fund at one point. in 1999, at 32 years old, he was named as one of the top advisers to Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the state’s first democratically elected governor. Oyebanji ascended through the ranks to become the state governor’s Chief of Staff in 2003.

 

In 2009, he was appointed as the chairman of the governing board, citizenship and leadership training centre under the federal ministry of youth and sports development (June 2009 – December 2010) and later got appointed as commissioner for integration and intergovernmental affairs and later Ekiti’s office of transformation strategy and delivery (OTSD) a year later by the first administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

 

In 2018, Oyebanji was appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG) by Kayode Fayemi, after being re-elected for a second term as Governor of Ekiti State where he later resigned clinched APC ticket and became Governor in the year 2022.

 

His humane disposition, enviable legacy, patriotism and immense contributions to the development of Ekiti State State and above all, his remarkable determination to the cause of democracy, good governance and accountable leadership made him some strategy move upon his resumption into office for the betterment of all and sundry.

 

His consideration for immediate recruitment of teachers in primary school is highly commendable, operation renovate capital bad roads and timely communication with people with innovative drive with investor’s to move the State forward is highly appreciated.
