Amb Seriki Outstanding in Service to Nigeria, Says Southern Senators

Senate members of the Southern extraction under the auspices of the Southern Senators Forum, has expressed shock over the sudden demise of the Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Chief Demola Seriki.

 

The Federal Lawmakers, described the former Minister of State for Defence as an outstanding and committed public servant, who always put the interest of the nation above personal pursuits, in all his dealings.

 

Seriki, an All Progressives Congress chieftain, died of cancer related ailment, on Wednesday, at the age of 63.

 

Mourning the shocking and devastating sudden passing of the late Envoy, the forum, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, said the country would miss sorely Seriki’s industry and sense of patriotism in the discharge of any national assignment.

 

Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, averred that his colleagues were deeply touched and saddened by the news of Seriki’s demise, praying to God to grant the family, friends and political allies the required strength and emotion to absorb and withstand the excruciating pain the politician’s death has brought.

 

The Senators added that the country would fondly remember with nostalgic feelings, how Seriki discharged his duties with zeal and unwavering spirit as a Defence Minister and Ambassador, saying these had brought him pride, recognition and etched his name in the annal of history as a committed Patriot.

 

The statement added; “We are saddened by the news of the sudden death of Chief Demola Seriki. Most painful was the fact that he died while serving his fatherland in far away Spain. But we appreciate the fact that this will further make his passing more glorious.

 

“The late Seriki’s life must have been relatively short, but he contributed his quota to national growth and development. He didn’t mess up the few opportunities he had to serve the country as a Minister and Ambassador.

 

“Seriki’s sense of diligence, team-work, humility and commitment to national duties, had made him a Patriot that will be remembered for long for these outstanding qualities that were his guiding principles as an individual and public servant.

 

“He was a refined politician, who doesn’t betray emotion so easily. Ambassador Seriki was down- to- earth and fearless in dealing with issues, no matter how inflammable and stroppy. He will be sorely missed.

 

“We condole with President Muhammadu Buhari, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwolu and the entire Seriki’s family of Lagos on the the demise of this illustrious Nigerian.

 

“May God almighty grant the deceased eternal rest”.
