China has said that it never received any request from Russia for help in the Ukraine war.

The Chinese government said no such request asking for military equipment or other assistance to support its war was made by Russia.

Two US officials had told CNN at the weekend that Russia had asked China for military equipment, as well as economic assistance.

However, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Zhao Lijian told a press conference that the US was “peddling disinformation.”

Asked about the reported request for assistance by Russia, the Minister said, “Recently, the US side has been peddling disinformation against China on the Ukraine issue with sinister intentions.

“China’s position on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear, and we have been playing a constructive role in promoting peace talks.”

China said the war in Ukraine must not continue, adding that it was imperative for both parties to cool down the tension.

He said his country was not ready to add fuel to the fire, insisting it is important to push for a diplomatic solution, rather than further escalating the situation.
